At Risør Shipping, we’re all about building our business on maritime traditions. That’s why we, in addition to our 9,000 gross tonnage general cargo bulk vessel, like to add some more hobby-related “vessels” to our fleet – such as our 12.5 KVM Krysser sailboat. Another passion of ours is doing our small part to make the world a better place through charity. Luckily, sometimes we get to do both.
Today, we are pleased to announce that we have made another hobby-related purchase, a beautiful kayak made from red cedar with mahogany trim. The kayak was bought at an auction at the famous Risør Wooden Boat Festival this month.
The auction was held to benefit children’s activities in the Risør community. The kayak was donated by Ruth Ervik, the widow of the late Risør entrepreneur and local wooden boat enthusiast Jan Gunnar Halvorsen, who had several boats and kayaks built in partnership with another late Risør legend and wooden boat enthusiast, Asbjørn Østerholt.
Our kayak was built about 15 years ago and has never been used on water. It comes with a beautiful wooden paddle and padded seat – but has no rudder.
We are thrilled to have added this kayak to our collection and to have contributed to the well-being of kids in the Risør community.
